Staying Hydrated

Follow by Email

Our bodies want and need to stay hydrated.  Water takes up approximately 60 percent of our body and it needs to be constantly replenished.

All organs of the human body need water to function properly.  It is essential for:

  • Digestion, and the absorption of nutrients and elimination of unwanted metabolic materials.
  • Transportation of nutriments throughout the body.
  • Regulating body temperature.
  • Protection of body organs.

Water used for filtering the blood is eliminated by the kidneys in the form of urine and feces.  Smaller amounts of water are eliminated through breathing, saliva, tears, and sweat.

One way of telling if we are drinking enough water is the color of our urine.  If it is very yellow and has a strong odor, it means you should be drinking more water.  If it is almost colorless and odorless, we are drinking enough water.

Needless to say, soft drinks and beer are not replacements for water!  Calories can be found practically everywhere but water.

Water is the beverage of choice for any person of any age.  In abundant amounts, it provides electrolytes, salt, chloride, and potassium.

Look for ways to hydrate yourself.  Add your favorite natural fruit juice to your water or mineral water.  If you feel the need to sweeten the beverage, add a small amount of Svetia®.
